Thomas F. Miller

Thomas F. Miller, 80, of Cranston, passed away in his home on October 12, 2019 surrounded by family and his beloved cat Frankie. Thomas was born to the late Frederick and Anna Miller on September 19, 1939 in Providence. Thomas is survived by his loving wife Elaine (Grant) Miller and his brother, Fred Miller Jr. (Alma), as well as his five children: Kathleen Worthington (Thomas), Thomas S. Miller (Catherine), Daniel Miller (Zenaida), Jennifer Miller Pagliuca, and Sara Miller Huddle (Steven). He was adored by his 14 grandchildren: Brendan, Leah, Jamie, Courtney, Allegra, Kelsey, Nathan, Robert, Thomas, Allison, Joyce, Nick, Emily, and Sean, and was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Tyler, Rose, Adilson, and Eloise, as well as one nephew and three nieces. Thomas graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1957. He joined the United States Coast Guard as a reserve, and painted houses for six years with E.F. Donnell and Sons. He was a Clerk at the Providence Post Office for 32 years before his retirement in 1998. Thomas had a passion for writing poetry, reading, and taking walks with his wife Elaine. He sponsored children for many years through the Foster Parents Plan. He always offered wise advice, and loved to tell it in a joke or riddle. He enjoyed family trips to Pulaski Park, exploring the Cranston Public Libraries, traveling to the Book Barn in Niantic, Connecticut, and drinking a nice, cold beer. Thomas’s family would like to share a poem he wrote in remembrance of him: When you leave here for a walk Do not leave without my song The one we sang at the start Like songs that stay in your mind Or surprises when you wake. This song of our own design All dressed now in fifties style How rare it is to remind With tempos we won’t forsake The beat may last awhile. Calling hours are Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenfield Road (Route 116), Scituate, R.I.. with a Memorial Service immediately following. Burial will be private.
