Paul Harris Shulver

Paul Harris Shulver, 78, peacefully passed away 24th of May. Born in Barrington, he was the son of the late Walter and Beatrice Shulver, brother of the late Diane Shulver, and beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Healy) Shulver. Paul attended St Andrew’s School and went on to proudly served his country as a Marine during which time he was stationed in the Caribbean and Japan working on helicopters (HMM-365). He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Salve Regina. Paul was a Barrington police officer before ultimately moving into a career in the Rhode Island Department of Corrections where he held roles ranging from Superintendent of the Training School to Deputy Warden of the Woman’s Division and more. Upon retiring from the State of Rhode Island he worked in security for Swarovski in Cranston. He was a devout Episcopalian serving as an altar boy in his early years and continued to be an active parishioner at the Church of the Ascension. From adolescence Paul had a passion for the outdoors with hobbies including fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved music and dancing. As a boy he played the drums leading to lots of drumming on the steering wheel when his favorite songs came on the radio. Growing up next to Winfield Parks inspired a love for photography. In fact, for a short time Paul owned a photography studio in East Greenwich called the Proper Shadow. Later in life Paul continued in his father’s footsteps joining St John’s Lodge #1 Providence. Paul not only lived a life of service but did it with zest. His door was always open, and he was quick to help whenever someone was in need. Paul is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Joann, as well as his children, Ashley and Benjamin, and 3 grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, June 9th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate. A Commital service with Military Honors will be held on Tueday, June 10th at 10:00 am in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Service, 301 South Country Trail, Exeter, RI. Please arrive no later than 9:45 am and meet at the administrative building. In lieu of flowers we respectfully ask for donations to Hope Alzheimer’s Center 25 Brayton Ave. Cranston, RI 02920. We will be forever grateful for the support, care, and joy that Hope Alzheimer’s Center provided.
