Joel Tang

Joel Tang, 88, of North Scituate, RI, passed away at his house on Friday, June 21, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Marilete Tang, for 65 years, his daughter, Priscilla Tang Ruscito, and son-in-law, Paul A. Ruscito. He was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was the son of the late Arthur Tang and Anna Tang from Estonia. He graduated from the Brazilian Air Force Academy in 1958. He went on a 43-year career as a military pilot and ended as a Brigadier General of the Brazilian Air Force. He was a pilot of a C-130, Albatroz plane, helicopter, and several other aircraft, with over 10,000 hours of flying. He was also a helicopter instructor. As a pilot, he had the opportunity to fly worldwide. He was honored to be the commander of the Brazilian Air Force Academy and other Air Force squads in Brazil. He conducted search and rescue operations throughout Brazil, including the Amazon Rainforest, rescuing numerous people. He was a military diplomat for the Brazilian Air Force in Ecuador. He was a faithful Christian from the age of 12, having accepted Jesus as his lord and savior. In Brazil, he was a church member, a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher. He and his wife always supported missionaries in Brazil and the USA even to this day. He was a nice, dignified man with pleasant ways. He was always respectful and thankful. He was the loving father of Joel Tang Jr. and his wife Claudia Tang, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Priscilla Tang Ruscito, and her husband Paul A. Ruscito, from North Scituate, RI. He was survived by four grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Thursday June 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 571 West Greenville Road, North Scituate.. A private burial for family will follow. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the North Scituate Baptist Church, 619 West Greenville Road, North Scituate.
