Gail Almeda (Pieterse) Barlow passed away March 12, 2017 at Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Providence, RI after 82 years of living life to the fullest. Widow of her beloved husband, Erson Paul Barlow, mother of the late Erson and Gary Barlow. Survived by two daughters: Charlene and husband Joe Hochreitor of Greenwich, CT and Cheri and husband Rick Rigby of Providence, RI. Sister to Beryl Gray, Sudbury, MA and the late Charles Pieterse. Gail, affectionately known as Mimi, held a special place in her heart for her seven grand-children: Philip Robinson, Ashley Garan, Emily Brown, Cori Lantz, Kristina Shepherd, Brendan Rigby and Graham Rigby and eight great grandchildren: Tyler and Torren Robinson, Max and Molly Garan, Eden Brown and Elijah, Judah and Avital Shepherd. Her grandchildren hold cherished memories of her freshly baked popovers and lavish lakehouse breakfasts. A lifelong learner, she retired from Digital Equipment Corporation and often reflected on her appreciation for how much she learned during her many years at DEC. Known for her love of all people, she was non-judgmental and open minded about folks from all walks of life. She often said, it takes all kinds to make the world and variety is the spice of life. She found joy each and every day in cooking and baking for family and friends, knitting, honing her computer skills and most of all painting. Gifted with the ability to make all those who entered her home feel welcome, she was a good listener and genuinely enjoyed hearing what others had to say. She had a special way with people and developed friendships with ease. More recently, Gail was one of the first members of The Providence Village of RI and was living independently thanks to her new friends and volunteers at ˜the village™. There is so much more to say about Gail, her legacy of love and zest for life. Family and friends are kindly invited to hear more of her story as we celebrate her life on Saturday April 8th at Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell St, Providence, at 11:00 a.m. Private interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington, MA.
