Eugene E. Tougas Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Eugene E. Tougas, 95 of Charlestown, RI, was called into his heavenly home on July, 28, 2022 with his loving wife of 61 years, Mary (Ponichtera) Tougas at his side at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. Eugene was born March 19, 1927 to the late Victor A. and Marie (Michaud) Tougas. After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy in 1946, Eugene worked at Kenyon Mill and the Pioneer Food Store in Shannock, RI, owned by his family. He also worked at the Sunrise Market in Westerly, where he was well known for making the best Italian sausage. Eugene was also known for his ability to fix just about anything that was broken. He loved reading, gardening picking blueberries and singing. He sang with the Chorus of Westerly for over 25 years and traveled to England and Scotland where he sang in Westminster Abby and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Eugene will be deeply missed by his children, Pamela (William) Roberts, Rene’ Tougas and Suzanne (Wayne) Robinson and his grandchildren, Dana (fiancé Ethan Campbell) and Travis Robinson. Eugene leaves his sister-in-law Patricia (Norman) Tougas, Cecelia (Ronald) Richard, Patricia Kells, Valerie (Dean) Ranns, brother-in-law, Peter (Jana) Ponichtera, James (Vickie) Ponichtera and many nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his sister, Irene (Tougas) Whitman, brother Jospeh and his wife Barbara (Hinchliffe) Tougas and Norman Tougas who passed on April 26, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday August 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 437 Carolina Back Road, Charlestown, RI. Burial will be announced at a later date.
