    Elsie Marguerite "Peggy" Hebert

    May 19, 2019

Elsie Marguerite “Peggy” Hebert, age 97, of Hope, RI, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Alpine Nursing Home, Coventry, RI. She was born in Smithfield, RI, the daughter of Emily (Hartman) and Noe Russell. Peggy is survived by her four children, Jean M. (Hebert) Wrye of Clearwater, FL, Russell T. and Jeanne B. Hebert of Vernon, CT, Gerard R. and Claire Hebert of Greenville, RI and Thomas J. and Melodie Hebert of Hope, RI; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great, great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph T. Hebert, her 2 sisters, Lillian Carono and Louise Rossi, and 1 brother, William Russell, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and her lifelong friend, Christine Burns. Peggy attended Hope School, Coventry High School and graduated from Ponagansett High School. She worked for a short while at Royal Mills where she met her future husband of 46 years before his passing in 1986. She also worked in the millinery dept of W.T. Grants until she started working for the Hope Post Office in 1959. She became Post Master in 1970 and retired in 1983 with a Certificate of Good Service. In 1971, she was made a Life Member of the Hope and Jackson Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Peggy was especially thankful for having her niece, Christine (Hebert) Verrier in her life, a dear friend and part-time caretaker and her granddaughter, Rondajean (Wyre) Foulks who was an invaluable aide during a rough period of her life. Peggy loved to travel and made many friends on her 20+ cruises on Holland America. She loved playing cards, Scrabble, Bingo and especially enjoyed her time at the Scituate Senior Center. Memorial services will be private. She will be laid to rest in eternal peace next to her husband. Because of her fondness for the Scituate Senior Center, in lieu of flowers, donations there would be appreciated.
