Elizabeth E. Luther

Elizabeth E. (Bailey) Luther, 97, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 surrounded by her family at her home in Foster, RI. She was the wife of the late Edwin J. Luther and the mother of Susan Austin (husband, William) of No. Scituate, RI, Layanee DeMerchant (husband, Christopher) of Foster, RI, Eileen Butler (husband, Steven) of Coventry, RI, Kathryn Pizzano (husband, Robert) of Poughquag, NY, E. Patrick Luther (wife, Diane) of Glocester, RI and Lyn Andersen (husband, Ronald) of Foster, RI. She had eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Elizabeth, Beth, was born in Pascoag, RI in 1923. She was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and held a Masters Degree in Library Science. She was a school librarian at the John F. Deering Junior High School in West Warwick, RI until her retirement. Beth was also a community leader in her town having served as the Town of Foster Tax Collector and as an elected member of the Foster Town Council. Beth was an avid golfer, seamstress, and bookworm. She loved to travel . One of her favorite places for adventure was a small cabin in the Maine wilderness. She and Ed, during his life, shared their cabin with family and friends - a place of quiet repose along with raucous laughter. Their children learned the value of running water, a deck of cards and stories told around a campfire. All traditions and lessons which they continue to share with their children and grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a committal service at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 301 South County Trail, Exeter on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Please meet at the administration parking lot no later than 12:45 p.m. Face masks are required. Contributions in memory of Elizabeth B. Luther may be sent to The Moosup Valley Fire Department, The Foster Ambulance Corps or The Foster Food Bank.
