Deborah “ Debby" Godfrey Brown, MS MA 85, 72 of Foster, RI died December 17, 2021 at home in the arms of her loving husband with loving caregivers by her side. She fought a twelve year battle with dementia. She was the loving wife of Steven C. Brown for twenty five years. Born in Pensacola, Florida, Debby was the daughter of the late Jack and Helen Godfrey. She is predeceased by her sister Kate Robinson. Debby was an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Rhode Island. She held a Master’s Degree in Nursing from URI, served as an Associate Professor and former Director of Undergraduate Studies for the College of Nursing. Prior to retiring in 2008, she helped develop the Capstone Course Leadership in Professional Nursing. In 1996 she and her then fiancé Steven Brown, created the Godfrey-Brown Nursing Scholarship, a permanent endowed fund providing financial aid to Rhode Islanders who plan to pursue a career in Clinical Nursing. Debby received the University of Rhode Island Deans Award 2021. Debby loved traveling with her husband. They enjoyed spending time in their home in Vermont. She loved attending nursing conventions. Her hobbies were making homemade jams with her girlfriends, car shows, photography, sewing and going to the beach. A life well lived; a woman who dedicated her life to helping and loving those around her. Visitation will held Friday, January 14th from 4-7:00 p.m with a Funeral Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in North Scituate Baptist Church, 619 West Greenville Road, Scituate. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
