Claire V. Taft, 88, formerly of Providence, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020, at Brentwood Nursing Home, Warwick, RI. Born in Taunton, MA, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Caroline (Chaiest) Lamarche, she lived in Taunton until an adult, then lived in Providence rest of her life. Claire was employed as a waitress for Greggs Restaurant for 20 years, until retirement in 2003. She volunteered at St. Thomas Church of North Providence, food pantry, weekly money counting after mass, and working the annual holiday festival, until the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. She self-taught herself to gourmet cook in multiple nationalities, bake elaborate wedding cakes, sew one of a kind wedding gowns/suits, loved arts and crafts. She was a compassionate and humble woman with a beautiful smile for everyone. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Lyons of Providence; Sally Binegar of Smithfield; two sons, Paul Taft of Providence; David Taft and his wife Kaye of Virginia; 11 grandchildren Mark Hogan, PJ Lyons, Melissa Courtemanche Smith, Kimberly Marino, Brandon Binegar, Joshua Taft, Michael Taft, Brian Taft, Adam Ferrio, Kyle Taft, Daniel Taft and 7 great grandchildrenMadilyn Marino, Samuel Marino; Gabriel Marino; Mark Hogan Jr,; Grace Smith; Spencer Smith; Chase Smith and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Claire’s life will be held at a later date. An announcement will be made as soon as possible. The service will be held at Winfield & Sons Funeral Home. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Donations in Claire’s memory to The Alzheimer Association RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St. #306, Providence, RI 02906 would be appreciated.
