Betsy Arnold (Mittie Barbara Arnold), 85, passed away peacefully Feb. 24th in the company of family members after a brief illness. Born in Providence, Rl and raised in Greene, RI, she was the daughter of the late Henry Nathaniel Arnold and Bertha Barbara (Hambly) Arnold. She attended grammar school in Greene, RI, and graduated from Lincoln School in 1955. She attended Centenary Jr. College, NJ and obtained a degree from Tufts - Boston School of Occupational Therapy. She worked as an Occupational Therapist at Fatima Hospital in Providence (1961-1969) then at Southview Specialized Care Center West Haven, CT (1969-1973) and later with the RI State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation at the LADD Center in Exeter. Betsy was a passionate horsewoman and breeder. She was a longtime member of the American Hanoverian Society and the New England Dressage Association. At her Greenefields Farm she bred many Hanoverian foals, showing them through out New England and earning the coveted "elite mare" status for one. She also enjoyed hosting the Tanheath Hunt Club on her farm for many years. Betsy was generous, kind and "fiercely independent". She loved her horses, fly fishing, gourmet food and made the best cheesecake ever. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her brother Henry N Arnold, Jr. of Greene, RI, her niece, Nancy Arnold Hartsig of Loveland, OH and nephew, Stephen H. Arnold of Pawtucket, RI. A sister, Nancy Balch Arnold, predeceased her in infancy in 1937. Burial will be private.
