Martha "Marti" Hendricks

Martha (Marti) Hendricks, 74, of Greene, Rhode Island, passed away on May 9, 2025. She was born on February 20, 1951, to the late Wayne and Patricia (Atwood) Bridges in Castine, Maine. From an early age, Marti had an adventurous spirit and a deep love of nature. Growing up on a farm in Bucksport, Maine, and being one of four siblings, she developed a strong connection to the outdoors. Her life was marked by travel and exploration, having lived in Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico, and traveled extensively throughout Europe. These experiences enriched her perspective and fueled her creative spirit. Marti was a talented musician, often playing guitar and singing, and she expressed herself beautifully through poetry and various forms of art. Her love of animals, especially dogs and horses, became a significant part of her life. Settling in Greene, Rhode Island, she became one of the preeminent dog breeders in America, known for her ethical practices and the love she poured into every animal in her care. Her dogs brought joy to countless families. But Marti’s impact went far beyond her artistry and love of animals. She was a beacon of resilience and growth for those around her. Marti openly shared her struggles in life, using her experiences to inspire change in others. As a mentor and guide, she helped many overcome addiction and heal from trauma, offering unwavering support and encouragement. Marti found peace and love in Greene, where she shared a life filled with joy, tranquility, and mutual support with her soulmate and longtime partner, Joan Hendricks. Together, they cultivated beautiful gardens and a life surrounded by nature’s beauty. She is survived by her beloved partner, Joan Hendricks; her children, Annemarie and Rob Aldrich; her grandchildren, Eli, Piper, and Logan; her sibling Margie and many other cherished relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Wayne, as well as her siblings Scott and Tony. Martha (Marti) Hendricks will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of compassion, creativity, and courage will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
