John Alden Parmelee

John Alden Parmelee, 83, of North Scituate, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. Parmelee (Wahl), with whom he shared a life filled with faith, family, and dedication to others. Born in Providence, John was the son of the late Lyman “Mal” Parmelee Jr. and Dorothy (Baird) Parmelee. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children: Aimee Parmelee-Bova of Sterling Heights, MI; Anna Parmelee of Savannah, GA; Kara Parmelee of Washington, D.C.; Jonas Parmelee of Johnston, RI; and Jason Parmelee of North Scituate, RI. He was a proud grandfather to Aidan, Esmé, Elizabeth, and Jonathan. John was the brother of William Parmelee and his wife, LuAnn, of West Palm Beach, Florida and the late Jane Baird Parmelee. John graduated from Cranston High School East on June 13, 1961. He later served for one year at the United States Coast Guard Academy aboard the USCGC Eagle, known as “Americas tall ship”, where he especially enjoyed climbing the mast. He went on to graduate from Boston University with a degree in accounting. John began his professional career with Ernst & Ernst, where he worked for five years before establishing his own business, Parmelee Services. Throughout his career, he founded several accounting firms and became known for his dedication to helping others through his work. In addition, he did consulting and auditing work for cities and towns throughout the state of Rhode Island. In 1999, John was knighted in Hungary as part of the Freedom Movement. He also served as controller of Atlantic Research & Publications and was a longtime friend of General Béla K. Király, Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary Forces during the Hungarian uprising. In addition to accounting, John co-owned two restaurants: Monte Green in Middletown, Connecticut and Geo’s Pasta & Grill in Coventry, Rhode Island. John loved accounting, helping others, and meeting new people. He also loved to travel and had a deep appreciation for music, especially classical music. He sang with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale Orchestra and once performed a solo, an experience he greatly cherished. John also had a deep appreciation for flowers and nature and was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves Baseball Team. John was a deeply spiritual man who devoted much of his life to studying the Bible, reading it in its entirety more than eight times. He was always seeking ways to strengthen his relationship with God, and in 2022 he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His strong Bible-based faith gave him deep confidence in the hope of the resurrection, and his family looks forward to seeing him again soon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1742 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, Rhode Island 02919.
