Dianne Alma Wood

Dianne Alma (Hopkins) Wood, age 89, passed away on Saturday January 13, 2024 at Kent Hospital with her family by her side. Born on February 10, 1934 in Providence, RI, she was a lifelong resident of Foster and the beloved wife for 65 years of the late David H. Wood, Sr. She was the daughter of the late Chester S. Hopkins and Marion (Hopkins) Hopkins. Dianne graduated from Coventry High School in 1951. In the early years of her marriage, Dianne focused on raising their six children, enjoyed gardening, baking and the Wednesday girls’ lunch club. Dianne was a parishioner of the Hopkins Mills Union Church, having taught Sunday school for years. She was a dedicated member of the South Foster Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and her baked beans were a fan favorite at the annual Christmas bazaars. Employed by Shady Acres Restaurant for over 35 years, she enjoyed socializing with residents of the Foster community. Dianne was a dedicated supporter of her children’s activities, clubs and sports, participating at all hours of the day and night. Proud mother of her children, she is survived by her daughters Christine (Stephen) Ferreira, Elizabeth (Norman) Fortin, Wendy (EJ) Wholey and son Randall (Pam) Wood. She was the loving Gramma to 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way. In addition to her husband David, she was predeceased by sons Clark V. Wood, David H. Wood, Jr. and grandson Dylan D. Wood, sister Joyce Moseley, brother Glenn “Bud” Hopkins and her twin Dennis Hopkins. Her children would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Janice and Bea, as well as Kent Hospital nursing staff and the VNA of Care New England Hospice team. She will be greatly missed at all our future family gatherings. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Sunday February 18, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:00 pm at Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate, RI.
