Diane Marie Luther

Diane Marie Luther (O’Keefe), 68, of Glocester, RI passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on September 8th, 2026. She was born on August 15th, 1958 and was a lifetime resident of Rhode Island. She was a loving mother and grandmother, selfless sister and daughter, and thoughtful friend of many. Diane was a devoted wife of 42 wonderful years to her husband, E. Patrick Luther. Diane and Pat were married on August 25th, 1984 on the shores of Ponaganset Reservoir where Diane spent her childhood, and where her children eventually shared their summers with Diane’s parents, Michael and Jeannine. Throughout the years, Diane and Pat frequented their favorite vacation spots in Aruba, where they basked in the sun, and Seboomook Lake in the North Maine woods, where they shared hundreds of miles together on their snowmobiles. Together, Diane and Pat built a home in which all were always welcomed, laughter was abundant, and love was constant. Diane’s proudest accomplishment and true passion was her family. They raised an incredibly tight-nit family of four uniquely successful children. Nothing brought Diane more joy than when all her children were under the same roof. She also excelled in her role as Mémère to Kayden, Michael, Vera, and Maeve, whom she loved dearly, held tightly, and spoiled thoroughly. While she birthed four of her own children, she was considered ‘world’s greatest mom’ to dozens whom she treated as her own. Her ‘open-house/open-fridge’ policy brought together the entire neighborhood and made the Luther household everyone’s second home. Diane was an incredibly talented artisan. As a self-employed pattern maker and seamstress, she built a thriving one-woman business over the years. She could frequently be found in her home office in the early hours of the morning, creating all kinds of women’s specialty garments. It was her greatest joy to use her talents to make custom pieces for friends and family, all brandished with her ‘specially hand-made by Diane Luther’ tag. None more meaningful than her daughter’s wedding dress completed last October, and quilts for each of her grandchildren, which she continued to craft in her final days. Diane was considered, and earned the title of, ‘the strongest person I know’ to all that held her close. She was not defined by her 6-year battle with cancer, but it revealed the depths of her unbelievable courage and willingness to endure. Her resolve was absolute, and her spirit was never once broken. Throughout her battle, she always maintained her light-hearted humor while she consistently reminded family and friends, ‘no tears.’ Diane is survived by her loving husband Patrick, her sons Charles, Brian, and James, her daughter Jeannine, her grandchildren Kayden, Michael, Vera, and Maeve and her siblings Michael, Rick, David, Joan, Patricia and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael James O’Keefe and Jeannine Theresa O’Keefe. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 21st from 4-7 PM and services will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10am, both of which to be hosted at Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate, RI.
