Angelo "Mike" Raimondi

Angelo “Mike” Raimondi, Jr., 79, of Scituate and Coventry, RI, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, after years of confronting cancer with strength and courage. Mike was born on May 3, 1947, to the late Josette (Fritschy) Raimondi and Angelo Raimondi, Sr. He grew up in Johnston, RI, and attended Classical High School. He spent much of his childhood in Josette’s Creamery, eating the homemade ice cream and helping run the shop. He met his future wife, Rita Hanson, while out cruising with his buddies in Providence. Mike and Rita loved to ride motorcycles and dirt bikes on her parents’ property in Glocester. They married in 1969 and toured the country in a Volkswagen Microbus for their delayed honeymoon. Mike served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1974 as an Aviation Electronics Technician on the aircraft carriers USS America and USS Forrestal. His duties included repair and maintenance of aircraft surveillance equipment (in other words, he worked on spy planes). He received a National Defense Service Medal for his service, but he also found time to sell freezer pops which he snuck onto the ship in boxes marked “Top Secret.” Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Roger Williams College in 1981, graduating summa cum laude. His path into land surveying began somewhat by chance, but it soon became the foundation of a meaningful and respected career. After receiving his land surveyor’s license, Mike founded Scituate Surveys in 1980. His legacy is now carried on by his his family. He is well known for his larger-than-life, mildly intimidating personality, but also for maintaining the highest quality of work and professional integrity, which have inspired generations of land surveyors. In addition to riding motorcycles, Mike loved to sail, and owned a sailboat for a number of years. He also enjoyed camping with this family, RV-style. However, the hobby for which he is most remembered is the legendary cookouts he loved to throw for friends and family on the family property in Scituate. They were massive events that included rounds of homemade grilled pizza, alongside more traditional cookout fare. Feeding people was his passion: he also volunteered for many years selling doughboys and sausage and pepper sandwiches for the Scituate Rotary Club and the Scituate Lions Club at the Scituate Art Festival. Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Rita (Hanson) Raimondi, who passed in 2017. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Jennifer, Julie, and Jessica, his two cherished grandchildren, Mason and Lucy, his sister Josette, niece Kelly, and grand nephew Angelo. His passing will also be mourned by friends, family, and all the people he “adopted” and mentored over the years. Mike had a huge heart, held equally strong senses of justice and humor, and was generous to a fault. He loved a good Immigration/American dream story, and was always there to help - and feed - loved ones and strangers alike. He will be deeply missed. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 25th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, at 571 W Greenville Rd, Scituate, RI.
