Wendy Yuen Darby

Wendy Yuen Darby, 44, of Johnston, RI, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Her dedicated husband, Joseph Alexander Darby, remained unwaveringly by her side for her final days. Her extraordinary journey began on July 4, 1979, in Manhattan, NY, when she was welcomed into the world by the late Hon Ging Yuen & Kam Lan Yuen. Raised in Brooklyn, NY, alongside her vast extended family, Wendy later attended Johnson & Wales University, where she would meet the love of her life. Together, Wendy and Joseph forged an unbreakable bond that would span over two decades. They created a life brimming with love, warmth, and happiness for each other, their daughters Sophie and Chloie, family, and expansive, robust group of friends. Wendy’s kindness and compassion knew no bounds, leaving an enduring mark on the hearts of those around her, regardless of the duration or distance apart. Everyone who knew Wendy could share stories of the tenderness, affection, and comfort she infused into the world. If she knew you were cold yesterday, she’d hand you a hat she crocheted herself tomorrow. If a little bundle of joy was on the way, she would lovingly whip up a unique blanket to embrace the newcomer. If you were blue, she would share her love of upbeat anime music, especially when times were tough. If you were hungry… that would be impossible if you knew her. Whether by invite or ambush, you never left her home without a sumptuous, home-cooked meal (or a to-go box)... or probably both. She committed these acts of love with humility, sternness, and sass. Though the world may seem a little colder in her absence, she would want us all to remember that today is a beautiful day. Wendy is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Joseph Alexander Darby, and her cherished daughters, Sophie and Chloie; her brother Wilson Yuen, his wife Qiaomin (Angel) Zhoa, and their son Wyatt; her brother-in-law Thomas Darby and his wife Jennifer Liebel; her brother-in-law William Darby, his wife Regina, and their daughters Rose and Grace; and her brother-in-law Sean Darby and his wife Amy Aiello. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m., with a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. in the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate, RI. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. For those unable to attend, her family asks that you take a moment of silence for reflection and remembrance for Wendy between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
