Mary Kate Kenny (née Grogan) *Maureen* On Sunday, September 17, in the small hours of the morning at Cherry Hill Manor, Rhode Island, the world lost the amazing mother of Kathleen (Bryan), John (Maureen), Kevin (Diane), Brian (Teri) and James (Carmen) and loving grandmother of Abigail, Elizabeth, Caroline, Erik, Lauren, Ryan, Claire, Kristen, Maeve, Stephen, Kyle, Dillon, Matthew, Christine, Michael and Michelle. Awaiting her in heaven was her beloved husband, Ted, their son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Erika. We all imagine the joy of that reunion and gave her some messages to relay, which are mostly unfit to share here. Mary was the cherished daughter of Maureen and Charles Grogan and baby sister to Jack (Margaret) and Charlie (Ag). They, too, will be at that heavenly reunion, making it notably funnier, generally louder, and just as Mary would have liked. Beloved by too many to name, Mary also leaves behind dear great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lots and lots of friends. Mary was born and raised in the Bronx, where she met and married the love of her life and stayed to raise their six children. In 2019, she moved to Johnston, RI, to be closer to her favorite child. She made many new friends these last four years -- a testament to her charm as a Yankee fan deep in Red Sox country. As a mother, Mary was loving, strict, and loyal. She was her children's greatest champion and trusted confidant. She always told them the truth, even if it wasn't what they wanted to hear. Selfless and devoted, she never ate the last piece of cake and always had paper goods to share. She loved a good clean joke, a big family party (was there any other kind?), a challenging Scrabble game and, most of all, listening to her son, Brian, play guitar and sing Danny Boy. In true Irish tradition, she had many nicknames: Maureen, Echo, Mags, Marlene and others more personal and private -- we already miss them all. Visitation will be held Saturday September 23rd from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate. A funeral mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bronx, NY, will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. Internment is private.
