Robert E. Roy, Sr. 92 went home to live with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Born in Glocester, RI, he was the son of the late Edward Roy and Edith (Sykes) Roy. He lived on William Henry Road in North Scituate, RI since 1938. He was the husband of the late Shirley D. Roy who predeceased him in January 2015. They were married for 67 years.
Bob leaves a son, Robert E. Roy, Jr. of North Scituate and his wife, Jan Dion Roy; and his son-in-law Bruce Chadwick of Cameron, NC. He was predeceased by his daughter Gladys Mae Chadwick. He was the grandfather of Aimee Erhardt of Tempe, AZ; Benjamin Chadwick of Warwick, RI; Betty Calcagni of West Warwick, RI; Michael Roy of Homer, AK; Wendy Chadwick of Las Vegas, NV; David Chadwick of Pawtucket, RI; and Benjamin Fontes of North Scituate, RI. He had 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bob worked as a self employed plumber until his retirement. Known to many as “Uncle Bob” he was an active participant at the North Scituate Advent Christian Church in Scituate, RI and at Camp Greene for many years where he was recognized for his cooking and throwing pool parties for the kids. On any day, he could be seen puttering around his yard or wood shop in his green work uniform. Bob was a creative man who enjoyed wood working and creating stained glass pieces. He grew a vegetable garden every year and was generous in making sure his neighbors and friends had fresh vegetables throughout the summer. Bob gave away much of his wood work and stained glass to family and friends. Some of his handy work can be seen in several houses around his home. Bob had a quiet wit and a ready smile.
Calling hours will be on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Winfield and Son’s Funeral Home located at 571 West Greenville Road in Scituate, RI. A Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017at 10:00 a.m. at the North Scituate Advent Christian Church at 212 Rockland Road, North Scituate, RI. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnston, RI.
