Fred A. Richenderfer of St. Petersburg, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the Friendly Home in Woonsocket, RI, with his family by his side. Born in Brandonville, PA, he was the husband of the late Elizabeth E. (Ryan) Richenderfer, and is the eighth child of the late Lloyd E. and Caroline (Brennar) Richenderfer.
Fred was in management for the Bell Telephone Co. of PA, for 37 years before retiring in 1985. He was a US Army Veteran who served in the Philippines in WWII. He was a member of the Elks Club in Bloomsburg, PA, and State College, PA. He was a member of the American Legion in State College, PA. He was an avid tennis player who played daily in his retirement years in St. Petersburg, FL. up until he turned 90 years old. In his earlier years, Fred was a tournament Racquetball player and dedicated golfer.
Fred is survived by two children,son, Fred A. Richenderfer, Jr., of Lincoln, RI, and daughter Nan M. Hart of Rutland, VT, brother Joseph Richenderfer, of Glen Mills, PA, sister, Marie Knittle, of Rochester, NY, three grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and many nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Florence McBride, brother, Reber Richenderfer, brother, James Richenderfer, brother, Hervey Richenderfer, brother, Raymond Richenderfer, sister, Ida Bower, and brother Walter Richenderfer. Services will be private. A celebration of life ceremony is planned for this spring/summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to LIGHThouse DC on their website: https://lighthousewdc.org/.
